Have you checked your forms/supplies order?
Don't be caught unprepared when tax season arrives. As soon as you receive a shipment of tax forms or supplies from CFS, please open it immediately and check your order. Verify that we sent you the correct items and that there is nothing you forgot to order. Keep in mind that items are sometimes damaged in transit.

Remember—forms and envelopes must be returned sealed and unused within 30 days, but no later than December 15th. Refunds do not include shipping charges.

IRS Announces New Return Preparer Application System and User Fee
In a recent press release, the IRS announced that a new online application system for compensated tax return preparers is expected to go live in mid-September. Preparers will need to obtain, or reapply for, a PTIN and pay an annual user fee to use the online system.

The fee—$64.25 for the first year—is based on underlying costs to the IRS and the third-party vendor that will operate the online system and provide customer support. The amount of the fee may change in future years as the actual program costs are periodically reevaluated.

In the same press release, the IRS announced proposed regulations that would amend Treasury Circular 230, the rules governing practice before the IRS. The proposed regulations generally would extend current regulations that apply to attorneys, certified public accountants and other specified tax professionals to all tax return preparers, including currently unenrolled tax return preparers. Timely New Letters in Tax Corresponder
We have recently added letters to Tax Corresponder 2010 addressing the HIRE Act and the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit. The letters can be used to explain the new laws to your client; more importantly, they serve as a marketing tool by encouraging the client to make an appointment with you for tax planning.

Tax CorresponderCFS Tax Corresponder contains many such letters for marketing your practice to potential clients or marketing new services to existing clients. Included are letters on such topics as IRAs, estate planning, tax planning strategies, and higher education tax breaks.

The letters in Tax Corresponder were written by experienced tax preparers, and can be customized to suit your needs. Client data can be imported from other CFS programs and other major tax preparation programs, then mail-merged to create a personalized letter to each of your clients.

If you have Tax Corresponder 2010, install the update containing the new letters by using the "Update from the Web" option within the program, or download the update here. For more information on Tax Corresponder or to order the program, click here.

Coming soon: W2/1099 and Payroll Corrector 2010
W2/1099 Payroll System and Payroll Return Corrector will be ready for download and shipping in early September. If you haven't already done so, be sure to renew by August 31st to take advantage of our summer early renewal incentives; customers who renew by August 31st earn a $5 voucher to apply to next year's order and can take 10% off any first-time software purchase!

If you have already purchased and installed the 2010 version of 941/940 or LivePayroll, you do not need a CD or a full program download to install either W2/1099 or Payroll Corrector. Simply select "Update from the Web" from the "Internet Options" menu of Payroll System 2010, or download and install the update from our web site, here.

However, you must be sure to update your license code. We receive many calls from customers who receive an error message upon installing W2/1099 simply because they have not updated their license code. You can obtain your license code by logging in to your MyCFS account.

Note: If you renewed W2/1099 by May 31st, you will soon be receiving your free forms starter kit, containing an assortment of red forms, envelopes, and blank perforated stock. You will receive a software CD by mail if you chose to pay for shipping when you ordered the program.
