Internal Revenue Manual added to TaxTools. One of the most useful components of both CD and online versions of CFS Audit & Collections (discontinued last year) was an easily-searched file containing relevant portions of the Internal Revenue Manual. Because we felt that this feature would be of use to TaxTools users, we have added a link to our online version of the IRM to TaxTools. The link can be found under the Internet Options menu. (You must have an Internet connection in order to access the IRM.)

How to import Schedule D data into your tax prep software. Use Schedule D Tools to gather and calculate the correct gains and losses from your client's stock transactions, then create a file that can be imported directly into Lacerte or ProSystem fx tax preparation software. Sounds easy, doesn't it? It is!
First, enter your client's stock transactions into Schedule D Tools. Allow the program to do the number-crunching for you: match lots sold with lots purchased, calculate long term/short term, figure the correct cost basis, and calculate wash sales. Generate a Realized Gains report to verify the results. Finally, export the data as an Excel file that can then be imported into Lacerte or ProSystem fx. (See your tax prep software's Help file for instructions on importing the file.)

Hello from the sandbox! Many of you have come to know CFS office manager Michael Toney through calls to our office. Some of you may also know that last year he was sent to Iraq with his Army Reserve unit. Michael has kept in touch with his friends here at CFS through e-mail. Shortly after arriving in Iraq last year, he wrote:
Please tell everyone hello from the big hot sandbox where I carry a weapon with me most all the time... When I walk along a dusty road here, many of the vehicles passing by are heavily armored vehicles. It's surreal... Sometimes we hear firing in the distance. And of course, you already know about the rocket attacks... Today I greeted five Iraqi men in their own language. When they heard me speak to them that way, it was as if their faces lit up...
I'm sure you will join all of us here at CFS in wishing Michael a safe and happy new year!
A little humor... A bar was so certain that its bartender was the strongest man around that they offered a standing $1000 bet. The bartender would squeeze a lemon until all the juice ran into a glass, then hand the lemon to a patron. Anyone who could squeeze one more drop of juice out would win the money. Many people had tried—weight-lifters, longshoremen, etc.—but nobody could do it.
One day, a scrawny little man wearing thick glasses and a polyester suit came into the bar. "I'd like to try that bet," he said in a tiny voice. After the laughter had died down, the bartender grabbed a lemon, squeezed it, then handed the remains of the rind to the little man.
The crowd's laughter turned to stunned silence as the man tightened his little fist around the lemon and six drops fell into the glass. As the crowd cheered, the bartender paid the $1000 and asked the little man, "What do you do for a living? Are you a lumberjack, a weight-lifter, or what?"
"I'm an IRS agent," the little man replied.
Happy new year!
