Tax Season Is Over—Now What?

Tax season is over, and we can all breathe a sigh of relief and head off on a well-deserved vacation. But then what? A recent poll inquiring what one thing accountants would do to improve their practice suggested that many would like to increase their number of clients. However, the same poll suggested that one of the biggest challenges facing accountants today is not having enough time.

So the question is, how can you best market your services and serve more clients while saving time?

CFS Tax Corresponder contains many form letters which can be used to market your practice to potential clients. For instance, there are letters specifically targeting new homeowners—a goldmine of potential clients. Tax Corresponder can also be used to market new services to existing clients. Included are letters on such common tax topics as IRAs, estate planning, tax planning strategies, and higher education tax breaks.

Why reinvent the wheel? The letters in Tax Corresponder were written by experienced tax preparers, and can be customized to suit your needs. Client data can be imported from other CFS programs and other major tax preparation programs, then mail-merged to create a personalized letter to each of your clients.

And don’t forget—once you’ve acquired all those new clients, you can use the time-saving tools in other CFS programs such as TaxTools, Small Business Tools, Financial Planning Tools and our other utility software to save more time serving those clients!

So now the question is, what are you going to do with all of that free time?

UI Rates, Percentages, and Decimal Equivalents

We have received a number of calls from Payroll System users who are having difficulty entering the correct UI rate into the program. CFS Payroll System requires a percentage for the UI rate. However, some states give the rate as a decimal equivalent instead of a percentage.

The rule of thumb is, if there isn’t a percent sign after the number (%), then the number is a decimal equivalent. You must convert this number to a percentage before entering it into the program by moving the decimal two places to the right.

Examples

  • 0.25 = 25%
  • 0.025 = 2.5%
  • 0.0025 = 0.25%
